On 13 June 2022, Ming Pao reported that all the four Citizenship and Social Development Textbooks submitted for approval wrote explicitly that ‘Hong Kong was never a colony’. It caused immediate public outcry. This gross attempt of distorting history also caused wide attention from foreign media. To facilitate public understanding of the complex history behind the issue, COOTL has prepared this booklet, which is based on historical facts and does not take any political stance.
